How to disable Microsoft Authenticator MFA requirement

Microsoft is forcing users to use Microsoft Authenticator as tenant default and only causes headaches for everyone. A better and more reliable way for MFA would be SMS verification.

From​ Microsoft Azure portal

1. Click on Security


Or use the search bar and search for Security

2. Click on Authentication methods

3. Click on Settings

4. Click on state Drop Down

5. Click on Disabled

6. Click on Save

This settings will prevent forcing people to use MS Authenticator for MFA logins

One more setting you might want to configure would be disabling Microsoft Authenticator MFA requirement upon account creation

After these changes users should easily now use your configured MFA with ease without having to setup MS authenticator.
